IT SLITHERED OUT OF THE MISSISSIPPI!

My mother was teenager when this happened. The family stopped by a park or camp not to far from the famous river. Uncle Frank and bunch off his buddies went got their fishing gear and left, while the women set up the picnic stuff. Not too long after the women set the area, the men were sighted. The men were hauling their assess as fast as they could. Frank and his fishing posse were yelling at the women " Run to the cars!". Everyone jumped into their vehicles and fled leaving all the food behind. There must been something really horrible to make the men leave their coolers of cold beer behind. Later Frank told them what happened. The fishing gang were enjoying their time until a fowl smell encircle them. It reeked of dead fish and it was getting stronger by the minute. Suddenly, huge eel-like serpent creature appeared out of the water before them. Then it slithered toward them and they fled. While escaping, they ran into uniformed men. She couldn't remember if they were police men or park rangers or group of hunters. They had heard of early encounters of the creature from other people and waited for their chance to capture it dead or alive. When they saw the large group of people fleeing, it was their possible chance. They question Frank quickly to find where it was last sighted. The family didn't stick around to see if the men encountered it.
